Button defends Alonso: “In the race we are caught up in emotions”

The season that McLaren is experiencing can be defined as anything but not simple, both for the team and for the professionals who put their heart and soul into the project, and for the riders. Precisely in this regard, in the last Japanese Grand Prix, which took place in Suzuka two weeks ago, Fernando Alonso was the protagonist of a dark radio team where he compared the Honda power unit mounted on his MP4-30 to that of a GP2 engine.

Although for some these immediate declarations already seemed to predict the beginning of the fracture final between McLaren, Honda and Alonso, the Spaniard has confirmed that he will continue to race for the Woking team until the end of his contract, 2017. But the controversy does not subside, given that from Sochi to take the defenses of the Ovietense his boxing partner, Jenson Button, also took over.

The Englishman, questioned by the now well-known radio team, stated that it is not right to judge the riders based on a few words said on the occasion of the heat of the race: “When we run we get caught up in emotions and it's normal that when things don't go as we perhaps expect we happen to say things that they shouldn't be said – commented Button – We know that the radio teams are broadcast worldwide but there are moments when, due to the heat, you are caught up in too many emotions and feel the need to express them hear to others".

Despite the difficult season at McLaren, expectations are high for 2016 and the drivers are also convinced that things can only go better: "Both Fernando and I are pushing hard, we're not there never held back faced with a challenge. It's normal that when you see that in the race you can't defend yourself, that the other cars overtake you easily, it's not nice – continued the English driver – We are doing our best with what we have available. We care and love this sport."
