Briatore wins the case against his lifetime ban

Flavio Briatore, former managing director of the Renault F1 team, has won the case brought at the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris against the FIA's decision to ban him for life from Formula 1 and all other motor sports following the scandal on Nelson Piquet Jr's piloted accident in Singapore 2008.

According to the court, the FIA's decision of September 21 was "irregular and illegal" and ordered the International Automobile Federation to notify all its members, in particular the 13 teams competing in the F1 world championship, of the cancellation of the decision, under penalty of a financial penalty of 10.000 euros for each day of delay.

Briatore will have to be compensated with 15.000 dollars.

After starting his legal action Briatore declared that he was the victim of a personal revenge. "In this case the FIA was used as an instrument for revenge and on behalf of one man" declared Briatore, in reference to Max Mosley.

The FIA will probably appeal the ruling.
