Briatore sells QPR shares to Ecclestone
Bernie Ecclestone has purchased the shares of Queens Park Rangers held by Flavio Briatore, and now controls the majority of the London football club.
Both Briatore and Ecclestone were previously thought to be intent on severing their links with QPR, and that Force India boss Vijay Mallya was close to buying the club.
But now British newspapers report that Bernie has increased his shares to more than 60%.
“I didn't buy the team to see my name in the newspapers, I bought it to help Neil (Warnock, QPR manager),” the Daily Star reports, quoting Ecclestone.
“Neil tells us what we have to do, and now our target is the Premier League,” he added.
The Mirror reports that former club president Briatore still holds a small stake.
“Now I own 62 percent of the club. I don't want to compete with Manchester United or Arsenal. It's just something I like to do, we'll see what happens,” added Ecclestone.
