Brawn defends the 2011 mobile wing

FOTA technical director Ross Brawn continues to insist that the movable rear wing which will be introduced to Formula 1 in 2011 has been designed with safety in mind.

From next season, drivers will be able to press a button on the steering wheel which reduces the aerodynamic load of the rear wing, consequently increasing the chances of overtaking.

But the new solution was not welcomed by the riders and veteran Jarno Trulli expressed his fear during the weekend in Valencia.

However, Mercedes team manager Ross Brawn insists the movable wing design also includes a safety device.

“The teams have worked a lot on this,” he said in Valencia.

“If the system were to have any problems, the wing would return to its normal position, without any loss of downforce,” added Brawn.
