Bell: “I would like to take Renault to the top like I did with Mercedes”

The technical director dreams of a near future full of success

Bell: “I would like to take Renault to the top like I did with Mercedes”

From his vast experience in F1, which started way back in 1982 as an aerodynamicist Bob Bell would like to guarantee the Renault a happy ending in Mercedes style, a team that he has seen grow and evolve since his return to the Circus in 2011 until his domination in 2014.

“The task that awaits me in Enstone is very similar to the one faced with the Stuttgart team” – confessed the technical director to Auto Motor und Sport.

“The French know how to build competitive cars, the problem is that today the sport has changed quite a bit since the last time they were there in 2005, so a lot of basic work will need to be done in order to create a solid platform from which to start for a long-term project. In short, we won't have to think about individual races but about a year and a half ahead" – he continued.

“Let's say that by having the opportunity to express myself also at the power unit development level, which is closely linked to the chassis, I will be able to ensure that the areas proceed in parallel and in the same direction with a fair distribution of resources” – the 57-year-old's conclusion.
