Black flag for Schumacher: the commissioners were in favor

In Hungary the stewards were supported by the driver Derek Warwick who confessed that the stewards were in favor of showing the black flag to Michael Schumacher for the very dangerous maneuver towards Barrichello.

“He would have been an example for all our young drivers” commented Warwick.

However, the decision could not materialize as the grand prix had reached its final laps and the time to analyze the images properly would not have allowed a penalty in the right time.

The former Toleman, Renault and Arrows driver, with 162 grand prix starts under his belt, went into detail about the decision: “We had to give him a penalty afterwards. Of course, you could have been disqualified for the next grand prix, maybe even two, but we opted for a ten-place grid penalty at Spa, where recovering is a difficult task. We hope that he will learn from this episode and remember that the stewards are no longer willing to tolerate this type of driving."
