Arrivabene harsh with the race direction: “Verstappen? Every time there is an excuse"
On the match: "We showed that we have determination and that we are strong"
Maurizio Arrivabene points the finger at Max Verstappen's maneuvers. The Dutchman from Red Bull was involved in a tight duel with Kimi Raikkonen for fifth position, which brought the two into contact, with the Finn damaging the front wing of his SF16-H on lap 57. The Cavallino team principal expressed his disappointment at the race direction's decision not to sanction Verstappen's changes in trajectory.
"We contacted Charlie Whiting to report Verstappen's double maneuver towards Kimi Raikkonen while attempting to overtake – Arrivabene said to Sky Sport F1 – but nothing was seen for them. Unfortunately every time there is an excuse, such as the issue of exceptional conditions when it rains. I'm referring to yesterday".
Speaking overall about the Hungaroring race, Arrivabene said: “We showed that we have determination and that we are strong. We're sorry we found ourselves in that position with Vettel. Great race from Raikkonen, he proved he deserves the renewal".
In a week F1 returns to the track for the German GP before the summer break: “Are the fans in low morale after the last few games? They are stories circulated by someone to destabilize us – concluded Arrivabene – We will never give up".
