Michael Schumacher is also against the abolition of tire warmers
di F1 editorial teamApril 17, 2008
Michael Schumacher has joined the group of active drivers who believe the abolition of tire warmers starting next year is unthinkable. In this week's testing in Barcelona, the teams are experimenting with regulatory proposals for 2009, including the reintroduction of slick tyres, a drastic reduction in downforce and the aforementioned omission of tyrewarmers.
"I don't think we can do without it next year" – Schumacher declared to the Spanish press at the end of the 80 laps completed yesterday with Ferrari. The main problem is that without the tyrewarmers, drivers have experienced the need to run three or four warm-up laps at significantly slower speeds than usual, which could lead to safety issues during Grands Prix.
