Mercedes could be the next team to copy Lotus' idea on the so-called "ride corrector", the new catchphrase of the 2012 Formula 1 season. Shortly after the news of the green light for the system created by Lotus (formerly Renault) it was learned that Ferrari was also working on a similar system.

The BBC said last week that the Maranello team "was the only team to contact the FIA" about a system very similar to Lotus's.

But now it has been learned that Mercedes GP may also be able to quickly copy the idea.

Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg's new car, the Mercedes W03, will not debut in the Jerez tests next month, but will benefit from another few weeks of gestation in the Brackley factory and will presumably be ready for the Barcelona tests.

Red Bull also experimented with a system similar to that of Lotus in 2010 but temporarily set it aside at the time.
