Alonso: “Great desire to start again”

Fernando Alonso greeted the public and the press at the “Ricardo Tormo” circuit in Cheste, near Valencia, for the Ferrari World Finals.

To those who asked him if he was disappointed with the team after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, he replied: “I am proud of what the Scuderia has been able to do this season. In a year in which we didn't have the best car we managed to get to the last race with a great chance of winning the title after a beautiful comeback. In a race like the last one anything can happen, this is sport, it's not pure mathematics. The recovery we made from mid-season onwards, the way we all worked together, united as ever, was much more important. There were races in which we lost points just as there were others in which the others lost more, otherwise they would have won much earlier.”

“A lot has been said about Abu Dhabi but it's easy to talk in retrospect” – continued Fernando – “But I think Red Bull would have made other choices after Korea, for example. The team was very sorry for the missed opportunity but the greatness of Ferrari is that they don't get depressed over a mistake, if anything they react to be even more determined the following year.” commented Alonso.

“Personally I really want to start again” – concluded the Spanish driver – “I still expect four teams – us, Mercedes, McLaren and Red Bull – to fight for the top. My first year at Ferrari was very nice, with a lot of satisfaction. If I think that at the beginning I didn't know the names of all the mechanics I can say that the start of the next championship will certainly be simpler. We are proud of what we have done and, at the same time, aware that we must improve" concluded Alonso.
