Alonso: “Surprised by the lack of support from those close to me”

Fernando Alonso has expressed his frustration at the lack of support from those who should be close to him in Formula 1. Earlier this week Daimler group president Dieter Zetsche called Alonso "probably the best driver in F1".

In recent weeks, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had defined Alonso as "a monster in the race". Speaking about the comments from Mercedes leaders in Monaco, Alonso said: “It's always nice when people appreciate your work, and respect what you try to achieve. Sometimes it's strange to see nice comments and compliments from outside people, and the opposite from people who should be close to you. It's motivating for me and it's nice to see nice comments, and it's crazy when you see the opposite in your closest friends."

For many these are messages aimed at Ferrari but according to the Spanish press Alonso was referring above all to some journalists who criticized his performances with the Red.
