Alonso: “We were very unlucky”

The Spanish driver slowed down by a failure in his Ferrari's DRS system

Alonso: “We were very unlucky”

Fernando Alonso is confident that his rivals for the Formula 1 title will also have to deal with the kind of misfortunes that marred his start to the 2013 season.

The Spanish driver was slowed down by a problem with the DRS which jammed and remained open in the early stages of the Bahrain Grand Prix, while he was racing in second place.

He was forced to make 2 stops to solve the problem but from the ninth lap he slipped to 19th position and no longer had to use the DRS to facilitate his recovery.

Despite everything, Alonso climbed up to eighth place.

Having withdrawn from the Malaysian Grand Prix due to a damaged front wing, Alonso admitted it had been a confusing start to his season.

But he is confident that his luck will turn.

“We were very unlucky,” Alonso said.

“In four races we had two very unlucky moments. But it will come for others and that's when we'll take our chance.”

Alonso, who won and finished second in two trouble-free races in 2013, said his DRS troubles massively affected his race.

“It was very difficult,” he added.

“I stopped twice in two laps so I ended up at the back of the pack with no DRS to pass.”

“The race has become very, very difficult.”
