Alonso contacted by Renault already at the first race of 2007
di F1 editorial team20 February 2008
Flavio Briatore, Managing Director of Renault F1, said that he had started discussing his possible return to the French team with Fernando Alonso since the first race of the 2007 season.
The former world champion finally decided in this sense only at the end of the only turbulent season he experienced last year with McLaren-Mercedes, but Briatore admitted to the microphones of Sports picture that discussions in this sense remained open for the entire season: “We spoke about this at the Melbourne Grand Prix last year and it's no joke: Alonso's return wasn't impossible, as we know each other really well. Even though he was with McLaren, we immediately talked about the possibility of him returning."
