Alonso: “We can think about the podium and maybe dream of victory”

The Spanish Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso, is satisfied with the result in qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix. Tomorrow Alonso will start from third position on the grid behind his main rival, Sebastian Vettel, and his teammate Felipe Massa.

Fernando Alonso: “I'm very happy with this position, it's been too long since we finished in the top three in qualifying! What we often succeed in the race was missing on Saturday: perhaps the rain helped us a little because we weren't the fastest in the dry, but starting from the front gives us the chance to think about the podium and maybe even dream of victory. In Q3 when we saw that the track was drying quickly we had a moment's hesitation because the intermediates in the dry only last a lap or two before starting to degrade. But in the end it seemed like the most sensible choice and it went well. For three years now, it's the first time that everything seems to be working: performance, strategies, stops. Now we have to see how tomorrow goes because with the rain it's always a lottery. Even if in today's Formula 1 the start is not the most important thing we will try to start well, maintain positions or even try to pass Vettel at the first corner. Then we'll see: Australia's race pace and Friday's long run allow us to be quite optimistic."
