Alonso and Massa: “Opponents and friends”

A driver's first opponent is, inevitably, his teammate: he is the only one who has the same vehicle, he is the only one with whom he plays cards face up.

Felipe Massa has always had very strong teammates, world champions of the caliber of Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve and Kimi Raikkonen but perhaps he had never found himself in difficulty in terms of results like with Fernando Alonso. Despite this, the relationship between the two Scuderia drivers today seems stronger than ever. In recent days on the snows of the Dolomites Felipe and Fernando have spent a lot of time together, even outside of the occasions determined by the calendar of media commitments.

“Fernando and I work together to have a fast car and for the good of the team” – said Felipe – “He is an excellent driver but it is obvious that I would always like to see my name at the beginning of each classification. In my opinion, the gap I have had with him in the last two years can be closed once we have a competitive car."

“We hope to both be competitive and manage to win half the races each!” – Fernando replied an hour later – “Felipe and I also have a good relationship off the track and we have fun together in our free time: our friendship also helps the team a lot because we need to be united to win.”
