The Spaniard one step away from McLaren

Alonso: “There is life after Ferrari”

Fernando Alonso is still the protagonist of the 1 F2015 driver market. The Spaniard seems to have reached the end of his adventure in Ferrari but has not yet revealed what his future team will be, although his arrival at McLaren-Honda now seems almost a given.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard told the press in Brazil: “Look at my former partner Felipe Massa, he spent years at Ferrari but this year (with Williams) he got on the podium and got a pole position. So there is life after Ferrari,” Alonso said at a Santander event on Friday evening.

According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Alonso is about to sign "the highest salary contract in the history of Formula 1" with McLaren-Honda.

As already reported, it would be a two-year contract but according to Auto Motor und Sport the uncertainty linked to the leadership at McLaren would slow down the signing. The role of Ron Dennis, in fact, would be doubtful with the main shareholders of the Woking team looking for a new boss.

“We are talking about Christian Horner, Gerhard Berger and Ross Brawn” we read in the German newspaper. Due to this uncertainty Alonso would like to sign the contract directly with Honda. But Eric Boullier reiterated that the negotiations are being managed by McLaren.

“The official member of the FIA entry list is McLaren, so it is McLaren who negotiates with the drivers, no one else,” he explained to Sky UK.
