Alonso: “Ferrari lacks a bit of performance”

Fernando Alonso seemed realistic at the end of free practice for the Friday Italian GP in Monza. The Spaniard from Ferrari finished the two sessions in seventh and fifth place. “Racing in Monza is always exciting, especially if you are a Ferrari driver. The warmth of the public is exceptional and can be felt" declared Alonso.

“From a technical point of view, however, today was a Friday like many others: we worked a lot both on comparing different aerodynamic solutions and on comparing different settings of the car's set-up. Now we have to put everything together and try to make the right choices” added Fernando.

“I honestly think we lack a bit of performance compared to the best, even if the usual Friday unknowns remain, in particular the one relating to the amount of petrol on board. But we have to be realistic: the car is more or less the one from Spa, except for the specific updates for this track which requires little downforce. Of course, it would be nice to repeat what happened last year but we are aware that it will be very difficult. You can't work miracles in two weeks but we will do our best to give our fans joy. What motivations do I have for this season finale? I am a very competitive person and I don't like losing. It's true, this year it has happened often but there are still objectives within reach such as, for example, second place in the Drivers' championship: Webber is not far away" concluded Alonso.
