Alonso: "Alguersuari is not too young for F1"

Fernando Alonso yesterday played down concerns about the age and inexperience of the youngest F1 rookie of all time, his compatriot Jaime Alguersuari. At 19 years and almost four months old, the new Toro Rosso driver has only conducted two straight-line tests at the wheel of an F1 car.

But Alonso, who himself made his debut at the age of 19 at the wheel of Minardi in 2001, reiterated that he "has no problem" with Alguersuari's debut.

"All signs say he is very good," the two-time world champion told the EFE agency. "If you are a young Formula 1 driver it is because you are good, so no one should worry" added Alonso, explaining that young drivers represent the next generation of the sport.

"I am in favor of having drivers debut as soon as possible. I congratulate him and wish him a splendid future." In the same interview Alonso refused to comment on the rumors that he wants him to join Ferrari.
