Alonso: “On holiday but without completely unplugging”

As with all the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro staff, holidays begin tomorrow for Fernando Alonso. After being in Maranello from Monday to Thursday to work together with the team both on the preparation of the final phase of the 2010 championship and on defining the guidelines for the car project for 2011, the Spanish driver wanted to be present today in Madonna di Campiglio to the presentation of Ercole Colombo's book on the twentieth anniversary of Wrooom.

“It won't be possible to completely disconnect my mind in these fifteen days: I will try to relax and do some sport but, at least once a day, even if for ten minutes, my thoughts will inevitably go to the next race in Belgium” - said Fernando – “I think it will be like this for everyone and that the moment the break arrives makes absolutely no difference. After a few unlucky races, which went badly for various reasons, we took the right direction. The car has improved a lot and this makes me more optimistic and has increased the confidence of the whole team. At Spa we will still have something more and we hope that it will make us improve further: the others will too, it will mean that we will have to be better and faster than them in development."

As for the situation in the Drivers' classification, Fernando was very sincere: “Two normal races were enough to fully get back into the fight for the title. It's true, we're still behind in the standings and it's always better to be in front but I'm convinced that for the final sprint, i.e. the last two or three races, we'll be further ahead than where we are now: the important thing is to stay calm and concentrated and do our job well. It's difficult to say who my strongest opponent is: we are practically all on equal terms. Maybe Hamilton, Button and I, who have already won a title, will face the final rush with greater calm, having already had a similar experience. Percentages? I would say 50%, as is normal..."

Fernando was asked what differences he feels in his relationship with Ferrari after seven months: “Not much has changed since last January. I immediately felt at ease, like in a family. Wrooom helped me a lot to immediately team up with my new colleagues and with my partner, with whom my relationship is always excellent. We have an extraordinary climate, I think better than that found in all the other teams: I really hope to be able to return here next January with even more satisfaction!"

A reference could not be missing to the next meeting of the FIA World Council, where the case of the German Grand Prix will be discussed: "We must await the decision with confidence, hoping for a positive outcome" - said Fernando - "For us drivers and the The engineers have the task of staying focused on the car and our work, trying to get results on the track."
