Alemanno: “GP in Rome only with Ferrari”
di F1 editorial team15 May, 2009
Rome is pushing for a Grand Prix, but F1's political situation is proving a major barrier to the plans. “I don't want to consider the idea of a Grand Prix in Rome without Ferrari,” the city's mayor Gianni Alemanno told Corriere dello Sport on Thursday.
However, despite Ferrari's threats to leave the category, plans for a 4,7km circuit in the EUR district - and investments of $200 million, much of which would be private investment - have been revealed.
“We will set up a promotion committee and then we will make our candidacy official,” Alemanno said. A formal request has not yet been submitted to the F1 authorities, but the idea would be to debut in 2012.
