Some teams are reportedly using the 'kickdown' system to take advantage of KERS
The German newspaper Auto Motor und Sport writes that four teams are using an innovative method to exploit the KERS: the system would be the one called "kickdown".
“Kickdown” refers to the extra pressure the driver must apply to the accelerator pedal at the bottom of its travel to activate the KERS.
This means that the pilot, already with the throttle wide open, when he wants to use the KERS all he has to do is push even harder on the right pedal to activate the device.
Nick Heidfeld confirmed that he had suggested this system to Renault, having joined the team following Kubica's accident.
An interesting solution is also that of Mercedes regarding the DRS: the W02s would have a third pedal, to the left of the brake, to be pressed to activate the rear wing.
