Abu Dhabi becomes another home race for McLaren
di F1 editorial teamMarch 24, 2009
McLaren Mercedes has added another "home race" to its F1 tour for 2009. The British Mercedes-powered team already calls the English and German grands prix home, and a Bahraini company has bought the 30% of the shares of the Woking team, two years ago. Furthermore, last week Daimler, which controls the Mercedes brand, announced that an investment fund controlled by the Abu Dhabi royal family paid almost 2 billion euros to buy 9,1% of its shares.
The capital of the United Arab Emirates will host its first F1 race in November. "Now we have another home grand prix, so we expect a nice season finale in Abu Dhabi," Mercedes representative Norbert Haug told German newspaper Bild.
