F1 | Renault, Prost on the world fight: “I was wrong about Ferrari”

Interviewed by the columns of Autosprint, Alain Prost spoke about the world battle between Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull, underlining how the Maranello Scuderia's ability to react surprised him considerably. The Red team, in fact, has always struggled with regulation changes, always finding itself unprepared.

With the arrival of Sergio Marchionne, however, there was a change of approach which allowed the technicians present in Maranello to be more daring in the design phase, allowing Vettel and Raikkonen to take to the track with a car capable of of the situation. The underdogs, at the moment, are all on the side of the team led by Maurizio Arrivabene, but Prost expects a response from Mercedes during the next events in Europe, highlighting how the fight for the title will continue until the last GP of Abu Dhabi.

Here are the words of Alain Prost: “Last year I declared that Ferrari never managed to be ready after a regulation change. I look at this year's results and unfortunately I have to admit that I was wrong. I think that this is the good year to return to winning and that above all the conditions are there to be able to manage a possible return of Mercedes and Red Bull. The engine has progressed more than the chassis and they are reaping the benefits of the winter's work. They have a great car.”

On the world struggle he added: “The six top riders can be competitive in all conditions. Maybe it will be more difficult for Hamilton given that since he has been at Mercedes he has never found himself in a situation like this, but in the end I think he will be able to manage the situation. It will be a truly exciting challenge."
