F1 | Herbert: "Hamilton's biggest challenge is overturning his worst year ever in Formula 1."
"Lewis risks ruining his legacy," the English commentator reported.
Lewis Hamilton's first season in red was a challenging one. The Englishman, who joined the Prancing Horse after completing a long and successful tenure with Mercedes, had to contend with numerous challenges driving the SF-25, which inevitably impacted his results, as evidenced by the 86 points scored by teammate Charles Leclerc and the lack of podium finishes.
Discussing his compatriot's problems with the Reds, Johnny Herbert underlined how Hamilton's biggest difficulty will be restarting after what could be considered his worst season since joining the Circus.
“The big challenge Lewis faces is how to turn around his worst year ever in F1,” Herbert said in an interview with Newbettingsites.uk. “When he’s seen in interviews, it’s a Lewis I’ve never seen before. He seems completely lost and destroyed.”
Herbert, continuing his remarks, said: “Lewis risks ruining his legacy. And it's probably horrible to say, but it's the beginning of this process. It was so disappointing, and everyone could see it. It's not like it happened to both drivers. It only happened to one, and there's a point—and it's a very difficult point to understand—where you choose to stop?”
The former English driver, continuing, added: "Nico Rosberg was heavily criticized for retiring after winning the World Championship, saying he'd had enough and leaving at the peak of his career. Then there are others who hold out and never get that opportunity again. The more you try and think about what you can do, the more you have to take three steps back and accept, 'No. It's not the same as before.' It looks like that, Lewis. It didn't just happen a few weekends ago. It's happened practically every weekend."
