F1 | Toro Rosso, Sainz: "Force India and Williams ahead in qualifying thanks to Mercedes maps"
"The situation in the race is balanced" he added
In an interview given during the opening press conference of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz spoke about the performance of the STR12, underlining how the single-seater is behaving well in all race situations. Despite this, however, the Spaniard explained that the Scuderia Faenza continues to pay a deficit of three tenths from Force India and Williams during the qualifying sessions, a sign that the Mercedes engine continues to have a particular "overboost" to be used in certain situations of the weekend.
Here are the words of Carlos Saiz: “The car is performing well and we are quite satisfied with the results on the track. We finished both first races in the points and we hope to repeat that in Bahrain. Our goal is fourth place in the constructors' championship, perhaps competing with Williams and Force India, but the Mercedes-powered cars continue to have a particular "overboost" in qualifying conditions. We pay about three tenths and even today it is not clear where they manage to get this extra power from."
“In any case, the situation in the race is balanced and we manage to play it without problems. We hope to adapt immediately to the heat of Sakhir and be able to finish another weekend without problems." he concluded.
